Having trouble syncing ipod?

Ipod is synced fine with this laptop, but i wanted to do a home share thing because i have a lot more music on the computer which i'd like to have on my ipod.

I connect it to the computer and the computer recognises it ("connected to ipod") but nothing happens on itunes, I was expecting a pop up giving me an option to sync&erase etc.

In the drop down list on file the ones that would show if itunes recognised it was connected were not clickable (such as sync/view ipod)

Does anyone have any ideas why?

I tried resetting the ipod by holding down the menu/circle button togehter but it made no difference in the end.

If anyone can help i'd really appreciate it :-)
Thank you!

You're on the wrong computer for home sharing anyway. Just IM the files then import them to the iTunes library and sync as usual.

Have you tried drag and drop in the left bar.

On the computer, hook up the ipod, then wait for it to recognize it. Then drag and drop the songs you want on the ipod.
