Any litters planned for 2010-2011?
I have a litter planned for april of 2011. I already have puppy fever.....
Every puppy that has ever come from my kennel is accounted for. Many who have passed on are buried on my property, as a place of permanence for their remains. Not one of mine has ever been nor ever will be abandoned. Why? Careful screening and due dilligence when it comes to placing the RIGHT puppy with the RIGHT people, and never allowing an unaltered animal to leave my care, with very few exceptions. The people who want one of my dogs want a purebred, pedigreed dog of merit with predictable characteristics and temperament. They do not want a rescue dog or mixed breed. And they are willing to wait, in some cases up to 3 years, for the RIGHT puppy for them. That said, I do not feel I contribute to the overpopulation and abandonment of dogs. We are talking a different class of dogs, and a different class of people here.
Greyhound, I do show and compete with my dogs. And they receive better medical care and screening than I do. They even eat better than I do. My last litter was july of 2008, 3 of the 4 have majors in different disciplines. The 4th is a lovely pet that should have been conformation, but her temperament was such that she was a perfect fit for one of my return clients. In good conscience I could not deny her the chance to be a beloved companion, and give up the "glory" of the ring. Recognition for efforts to maintain workability, form and function are, of course, important to ANY kennel of quality dogs. But having one of yours go to a wonderful, proven home will take top priority at times, IMO
