Does uploading speed affects downloading speed (Torrent)?

I don't have active downloading files in my torrent client (bittorent), I am only uploading files.
1) Why some files are still being downloaded with 0.5 or 0.1 kbps?
2) Why does internet speed slows down? Internet (http) becomes way, way slower when I upload files in bittorent.

Internet browsing uses bandwidth in both directions. Most of it is downloading, but a bit of it is uploading. If your torrents are uploading and using all the bandwidth, your browser cannot acknowledge packets very fast (upload to web servers)

Stop the uploading and see if the problem goes away....

Most accurate answer is like this: The upload speed does not have any impact or effect on the download speed(atleast in torrents). So never bother to decrease the upload speed and decrease the download speed of others.

Bittorents can really affect your downloading capabilities. I have noticed from past experience. Whenever I have my torrent open, nothing else seems to function properly on the internet. I know this doesn't necessarily answer your question; however, I would assume that it's a normal thing. Sorry for not being much help!

yes it does. your upspeed is based on your downspeed. esp if you're posting or signing on. Thats why people spend so much for a T1 line because its as fast as DSL but the upload speed is a balanced with the download speed...depending on the torrent program you use it could have a cap depending on your upload speed.
