Does Upload Speed Affect Download Speed (Torrents)?
If I decrease the upload limit when downloading a torrent, will this increase the download speed, or are both download and upload completely separate?
I use Azureus (on Mac OS X)

more upload bandwith given = less download bandwith
some torrent clients wont allow you to throttle the download speed while you restrict the upload speed
also some torrent servers will temp/perm ban you for uploading less.
use torrentspy.com
and utorrent.com

Most accurate answer is like this:
The upload speed does not have any impact or effect on the download speed(atleast in torrents).
So never bother to decrease the upload speed and decrease the download speed of others.

Bittorents can really affect your downloading capabilities. I have noticed from past experience. Whenever I have my torrent open, nothing else seems to function properly on the internet. I know this doesn't necessarily answer your question; however, I would assume that it's a normal thing. Sorry for not being much help!

Internet browsing uses bandwidth in both directions. Most of it is downloading, but a bit of it is uploading. If your torrents are uploading and using all the bandwidth, your browser cannot acknowledge packets very fast (upload to web servers) Stop the uploading and see if the problem goes away....

Uploading And Downloading Aren't The Same Thing, So No. The Host You're Downloading From Is The Only One Who Has Control Over How Fast Your Download Is And Most Hosts Just Let The Application Decide How To Distribute The Download Bandwith. So Changing The Upload Speed Only Changes Your 'Upload' Speed. Good Luck, Brodey.

In general yes. BitTorrent as a protocol gives more data to those who are sharing the most. The more you give, the more you receive. Your speed may not increase if you are already download at the maximum speed your connectino will allow.

It depends on the BitTorrent clients the people you are downloading from use. Some people use BitTorrent software which limits leeching.
