A Question about Marriage?

I am wondering if anyone out there can help me.

I am an English female who is engage to a female to male transsexual man, he has his Gender Recognition Certificate and we are currently planning our registry office wedding.

My family is catholic, they are very open minded and accepting of our relationship, but they would like it for us to get a catholic priest to bless the union.

Does anyone out there know if this would be possible as I am not sure.

I imagine your husband would have to present his Gender Recognition Certificate to the registry office to get married.

Once you are married, you'll have your marriage license. On the license, will it say anywhere that your husband used to be female?

My point is, how would the priest know your husband used to be female and how is it any of his business really? You are only asking for a blessing, afterall.

You might be able to find a very liberal and open-minded priest who would be willing to provide a blessing (after, all, you wouldn't be asking him to perform a wedding ceremony); but even then, he might require permission from a superior.

I suggest that your family discuss this with their priest, in order to find out what the general position of the Church is. If the position is negative, then your relatives will simply have to accept that.

If you can find a open minded priest to marry you then yes it is. Though honestly a lot of clergy are very iffy on this and don't believe in "gay marriage" whether said person is a male now. You are just going to have to call around and see if you can find a priest that is either open minded or is willing to do it if you pay enough.

I've often said that transsexualism is a matter for the individual and his / her doctor, not the church.

The position of the Catholic church is to not recognize a change of sex.

This is certainly a case of what the church / priest doesn't know won't hurt them.
