I am going to a conference on Broadway and I need to book a hotel near by. I'm looking at different sites and it's asking which neighbourhood I want a hotel in. What do I put? Thanks =)

It is in the thetare district - it is a conference for drama teachers so we will be going to a show each night (promises, promises & American Idoit) for example - so I want a hotel close to that -- it's my first time in NYC and I'm kind of scared to take the subway (not that I scared of anyone on the subway - I'm scared I will get lost). THANKS

Broadway, the street, is a very long street that begins way down near the tip of Manhattan, and then cuts through the entire borough, and goes up through the Bronx and into Westchester County.
However, when people say "On Broadway", they are often referring to the Broadway Theater District, which is a cluster of theaters around Times Square (most of the theaters are not actually on Broadway itself, but on the side streets. However, they are called "Broadway theaters.")
Where is your conference? Is it actually on the street called Broadway, or is it in the Theater District?
If it's on the street called Broadway, it could be in any number of neighborhoods. The way you can tell is to ask the cross street. That's how most New Yorkers know where, exactly, something is. We always ask for the street address and the cross street nearest that address.
But if you are in the Theater District, any Times Square hotel will be right nearby. (Though, personally, I'd much rather stay elsewhere, myself!)
Broadway theaters are clustered around Times Square, within a block or so of Broadway between 42d Street and about 48th Street. The marriot Marquis is a popular Hotel there, but ther are many more as well.
Just search Times Square for best results, but I recommend tha you stay above 42d street. By the way, two blocks west of there on Ninth Ave are lots of restaurants that cater to NYer's rather than tourists.
Bdwy started out as a cow path that meanders through the whole borough of Manhattan up through the Bronx and into Yonkers. Try for a hotel in midtown. There is a subway that runs the length of Bdwy in Manhattan
