Are social security laws in adoptive families catching up with new family types?
I'd like to know if social security is honoring the 2nd parent when one in a relationship adopts a child and even though the other parent has been there since day one, and they've provided financial security, if they're honoring this type of relationship and providing social security benefits if the 2nd parent dies. I know that if the adoptive parent dies, leaves a will where the other one gets the child that they'd be awarded the benefits.
I'm talking about gay/lesbian couples as well as unmarried couples.
