When do they sound the tornado siren?

It seems around me they fire up the siren like 20 mins before any thunder storm. In the past they use to only do it when there was a physical spotting of a twister. Then they switched it to if they see what looks like one on radar. Earlier this year they did it when only the conditions were right. Now they just seem to do it just for the heck of it like its a signal for rain. Everyone just seems to ignore it now since it seems they just sound it when there is a storm coming. When a real one comes everyone won't know its the real thing. What wrong with weather people these days? Does it seem the same way around where you live?

It's not the same here, thankfully. Your local area's EOC (emergency operations command) or emergency services may not be knowledgeable about severe weather. Sounds like they need to be educated or get other people to sound the sirens.

I'm not sure what's going on where you live, but in most, if not all, cases the weather people do not sound the sirens. It usually is the local civil defense that does. Outside of tests, they should sound them only if a tornado warning has been issued or one has been spotted. Sometimes they sound them for other emergencies, such as flash flooding, but that varies from one place to another.

If there are signs on the radar, the conditions are right, and/or a tornado has been spotted, the sirens will usually go off. In Oklahoma, they only sound the sirens if the threat is there. They are usually pretty good about it.
