Why do some towns sound tornado sirens at noon?
I mean, I know why they do...but why do they?
People know it's noon without the help of a siren.

cant speak for every town, but in the case of my town:
It is on the route of was once a major railroad so when visitors would come in then could synchronize their watch with the locals when they heard the noon siren
so i believe it has to do with synchronization, just keeping everybody on the same page
also by blowing the siren everyday at noon, it makes sure regular testing of the siren takes place.

In the case of the small town I grew up in, it was also the signal for workers to take their lunch break. Many farmers were up at the crack of dawn and then out in the fields and had no idea what time it was. The siren was a way for them to know to return to the house for lunch. It is a good way to test it at the same time. Then there was a different switch for tornadoes or to alert the volunteer fire dept.

By me, every Friday at 9:00am the test the tornado siren. It is to make sure that the siren is in working condition in case of severe weather. You wouldn't want them to discover that it doesn't work when it truly is needed.

No. In Utah because of our high mountains we seldom have ever had a tornado. We've had maybe 2 known big tornadoes in the last 150 years.

In our town the siren sounds on the first Monday
of every month as a test of the system.

Probably just to warn people to be in a look out for a passing tornado; there's some tornadoes that don't touch ground, they just pass over a town.

Its sounded so you would get up of your lazy *** any not sleep all afternoon. And to test it.

"Halibut" is correct. It is to test the system to make sure it is operating correctly.
