IS FREEDOM OF SPEECH DIRECTLY UNDER ATTACK BECAUSE OF POLITICAL CORRECTNESS?

The USA is fortunate that the Founding Fathers and the Constitution also formulated the Bill of Rights. But all of our rights as listed in the Constitution are under attack by both POLITICAL parties in the USA. Many countries all over the world are emulating the USA's Political Correctness binge. here. Under Obama, they are in serious jeapardy. Instead of the right of free speech and FREEDOM OF EXPRESSION, we have politicial correctness. If you say or write something that those in power do not agree with you can get sued for making disagreeable statements. Many in the Democrats (the liberal party here) insist that disagreeing with Oblama is wrong and should not be allowed. So then, I PERSONALLY consider that both a DIRECT THREAT TO my freedom of speech...AND SUCH ACTIONS AS the mark of a tyrant.

Most Americans consider the right to own and bear arms (as in other ENLIGHTENED countries like Switzerland...and others) important because it gives us the ability to defend ourselves in our homes from attack and because it gives us the ability to change our government (which we have never done) IF REQUIRED. The politicians are continually attacking that right a little at a time.

SO, IS P.C. A DIRECT ATTACK ON FREEDOM OF SPEECH AND EXPRESSION?

FOR THOSE WHO ARE 'REALITY CHALLENGED' AND STILL HAVE TO ASK FOR EXAMPLES OF P.C., HERE ARE SOME...

@Lotta Lou...thx for the long answer. I do take exception to the description of Coyotes eating their young or predatory behaviour towards their own species. That is simply not true, and is a very uncommon occurrence...though I do realize the attempt in analogy. I live in farm country and familiar with Coyote habits. I have 3 Great Pyrenees working in my farm to keep them at bay.

We should use the same techniques & fearlessness to track down terrorists in Iraq: Figure out how your enemy operates, be faster and more ruthless than everybody else, then take the f#@kers out. P.C. doesn't allow that.

Political Correctness is a Liberal plot to end speech and thought.

Political Correctness is the gulag of the intellect.

Nonsense on all 3 counts. Freedom of speech means being allowed to say what you like within reason, not having people agree with anything you say, or not having anyone ever be offended by anything you say. It's not any sort of authoritarian control to, dunno, not want to hear racist jokes. If you were imprisoned for it by the authorities, you'd have a point. I don't know Ruth Perry, but would not trust her or Wikipedia to be authoritative on this point. I remember the radical left in the 1960s, and not only did we not use the term "political correctness", but if you listen to old speeches by those radicals, you will wince at their political incorrectness. The term came into popular use decades later.

Only if the government censors you. Are they censoring you?

Having the right of Freedom of Speech has never been necessary to protect popular speech (or politically correct speech) because nobody wants to censor it. The right has always existed to protect unpopular speech because it is the only type of speech that needs the protection. Otherwise nobody would have a problem with it. It is no different than it has ever been. Different cases have shaped the laws more concisely, but in general, unpopular speech will be protected whether it is PC or not.

The only kind of speech that has no protection or very little protection, is obscenity, fraudulent advertising (e.g. commercial speech), and incitement to imminent illegal activity.

No, the freedom of speech is not under attack. The reason why you may feel this way is because Americans won't stand idly by and allow idiots like Rush Limbaugh, Dr. Laura, and that quitter from twitter Sarah Palin make racist and ignorant comments in the name of free speech.

You are free to say what you like. People are free to not like what you say.

"insist that disagreeing with Oblama is wrong and should not be allowed" They disagree with you. That is their right. It is still your right to say what you want.

"The politicians are continually attacking that right a little at a time." While it does help protect our homes, its purpose was to allow the people to defend themselves from an oppressive government. Sure the people in power will not like that. They are the oppressors. They don't want you to be able to defend yourself.
