Would you say that our strengths are worthless if we don't use them to help others? Why or why not?

Not worthless, much devalued. Self aggrandizement and the pursuit of wealth really are not that satisfying. What is satisfying is helping others.

Several years ago I almost died after some routine surgery. I was about 3 days thinking I was a goner. I had time to review my life and the good and the bad things I had done. I thought about how much work and time I had put into helping my family, my community and my country be a better place, and I was satisfied that I had done as best as I could. I still did not want to die but I felt like at least my time here had not been wasted.

How much money I made and that sort of thing didnt seem all that important in the final equation.

I would agree. Simply, if you can walk and help someone who can't, then you have a value.
If you can walk and don't help someone who can't, then it is not worthwhile that you can walk.
I could get a lot deeper on this!
