What is wrong with my 2000 Chevy Blazer?

Recently I have noticed a loud roaring/humming sound when I am traveling at or above 40mph. The sound tends to get louder the faster I go.

After doing some research and investigating, I noticed that the sound usually stops when I am pulling through a gradual right hand curve in the road. However, once I get back to going straight, the sound starts again. In other words, when downward pressure is taken off of my right wheel the sound stops.

I believe that I have a problem with my front right wheel bearing and plan to take to my mechanic and have it checked out.

But I was wondering, what do you think is wrong? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Frankie - I normally drive in 2WD but my blazer is capable of 4WD high and low

Alekat - I'll try what you recommended, thanks

Is it a 2-wheel drive vehicle? If so, then more than likely it's the wheel bearing going bad.

from your diagnosis it sounds like a right hand wheel bearing. When you vear right the weight is transferred from the right wheel to the left and that does usually make the noise go away of quiet down.
However this method will trick you and it has me a few times but now i look for it. If the left wheel bearing is loose enough to make the wheel assembly wobble it will be opposite. So when ever you are replacing a front wheel bearing check both sides for looseness before anything. And if you have a loose one replace that one first and test drive the vehicle.
When you buy a new bearing beware of the cheaper ones as i have had many comebacks from them in less than 10,000 miles some in the same day. Ask for the higher quality bearing they are sometimes only 40 or 50 bucks more.

When you hear the sound - switch to 4-H, (only when going straight forward at road idle) for 10/15 seconds - switch back to 2-H and see if it stops?

Mine has been doing this for 5 years.

Take a pipe or a bat and whack the tank it might want to "awaken" the gas pump. If it begins then you definitely gunna favor to modify it. also pay interest once you turn on the ignition and also you may want to hear the pump run for some seconds.
