Would you young people be in favor of cancelling social security?
We're not going to get it anyways and all it's doing is bankrupting the country. Retirees are by average the richest age group. So, why do we younger people give them 25%+ of the budget (SS & Medicare)? Why don't we just get rid of it and let 401k's do the work?

Don't you people realize that we workers put that money into the fund as an insurance policy and not a tax? The powers that be chose to "borrow" the excess and did not pay it back. That has made it lack the funds needed to pay what it is supposed to pay. The old people did not borrow those funds and there would be no deficit if the greedy guts had left it alone. Blame the correct people and make them return the funds that were not theirs to spend.
It is not insurance in any way shape or form. Look at all your insurance policies. Those are contracts. You can't show me your social security contract, because it's not insurance. No contract, no insurance. They aren't even legally obligated to pay it back if they don't want to. Social Security is a ponzi scheme, like bernie madoff, and will go the same way. This is why young people want to opt out, they know it will be unable to return their money, as promised.
