Aren't those who argue against Social Security in favor of theft?

Social Security had annual surpluses every year till this one since its inception. It was borrowed and must be re payed. Aren't those who want to 'privatize' social security basically arguing in favor of theft?

Are you serious? The theft was perpetrated by those who spent the surpluses over the past few decades. That money is gone and isn't going to be repaid. If you think it is you're living in a fantasy world. The only issue now is how to reform the system going forward so it works better for future retirees.

I haven't heard anyone call for privatizing social security. What some have called for is allowing workers the choice of putting a portion of their SS tax into a private savings account, rather than putting all of it into the government coffers where it will be stolen by big spending politicians. A personal savings account would be controlled by the retiree and could be left to decedents upon death. Under the current system, when you die, your benefits end and all is lost. Someone could pay SS tax all their life, die at 65 and never get a penny out of the program. No one is suggesting the private account option should be mandatory or that people within 10-15 years of retirement age should see any change at all.

It comes down to what's a better and more sustainable retirement system, a defined contribution, or defined benefit plan? Are you serious about reforming SS so it continues to function into the future or are you just a political hack like Obama? http://www.cnbc.com/id/38722549

    What???????????????????????????

    Social Security is theft.

The government took the people's money and used it as a slush fund. It is not there anymore as the government promised. The government has stolen our and your social security.

Can't trust those buggers now can we?

I argue that Social Security should be PHASED OUT and become VOLUNTARY.

So that theft by the government of the people, would no longer happen under the guise of Social Security.

Well, seeing as how people are born gay, and they cannot help it, I see no reason why two consenting homosexuals shouldn't be allowed to get married. Even if marriage was designed to be between a man and a woman, there's nothing wrong with civil unions. Two homosexuals should be allowed to share the financial benefits that heterosexual couples do. If people disagree with that, they are doing so merely out of spite and hatred. It's good that you are taking a stance and speaking out, instead of joining the anti-gay Christian band-wagon.

I'm not quite sure you how figure that.

If we honor the commitments made, yet privatize SS for the younger generations, how exactly would that be theft.

I'm speaking hypothetically here. Truly, I don't even know if that's possible at this point.

What we do know was that the system should have been set up long ago as a private account vs. the current system.

No they are arguing against the institutional theft that is more commonly called Social Security. I would gladly give up all my "contributions" to have that bad idea scrapped today.

You seriously spelled repaid - as repayed - wow, anywho back to the subject at hand.

If you really believe they are going to repay the fund you have to get in touch with reality.

No one is suggesting "privatizing" social security - rather many are suggesting privatizing people's contributions in the future - to allow them a choice - sink or swim - the American Way.

Too many old folks are draining the system - many old folks today (especially the females) never contributed a fricking penny - that is thievery they are stealing from us young folks.

I think there might be something to that. Either way Social Security was paid into and a deal's a deal! It would be a terrible crime to mess up the peoples' Social Security.

No, collectivist welfare programs are theft. Not only is it theft when government steals money from its citizens, but politicians also raid social security for unrelated projects. So if you think about it, it's a double-theft.

Social Security would not be in the hole if it had not been for democrats years ago deciding it was fair game to steal from the fund ! Once they got there hands in it , they never stopped !
