KC registration in dogs?

I have lived in both NY and in Virginia and have also visited pet shops in other states and the puppies are always AKC registered but yet AKC tries to say they are against these puppy mills and backyard breeders but they continue to support these breeders by registring these pus that are sold in pet shops???

Just how in the hell would AKC know where a dog came from? The AKC is not the breeding or selling police. It's a record keeping organization of purebred dogs. If the dog's parents have full AKC registration, the pups are eligible to be registered. Believe me, there are just as many poorly bred Back Yard Bred dogs as there are from ones sold in pet shops. The AKC has NOTHING to do with this.

The AKC is not a stamp of approval. It is a registration body. It requests that new owners do their research. Any puppy in a pet store is from a puppy mill or a backyard breeder. Any pup with parents that have full AKC registration is eligible to be AKC registered as well. It is not a mark of quality- that is the puppy buyer's responsibility.

Unless someone violates the rules, there is nothing to be done. Puppy mills are legal to operate as long as they pass inspection according to local, state & national laws. As AKC clearly states just because a dog is registered thru them isn't a guarantee of quality breeding or health. Plenty of mills & BYBs don't use AKC which is how those other crappy ones are able to stay in business. All that is necessary is for a potential owner to educate themselves which is extremely easy these days but too many are too lazy & want what they want right then rather than doing the work & waiting.

If both parents are AKC registered then the AKC registers the puppy's simple as that whether they are Puppy mill puppies or BYBs puppies .
