Craigslist parents, how much would you pay for this?
I've been trying to sell my outgrown travel system for several weeks now. I've dropped the price several times but still no luck. Just curious how much other people consider reasonable for it as I must still be asking too much. http://www.flickr.com/photos/26013076@N05/5606258111/in/photostream
*I am aware that it isn't advised to buy second hand car seats. But there are still plenty of people that do, and this is an unexpired, accident free car seat.

The set is 3 years old

I've been asking $60 for a 3 year old travel system, which I thought was pretty reasonable.

2nd $20-$40
That looks older -- five years, plus? At that age your stuff hits 'garage sale' level, not 'somebody will set up an appointment with me and drive across town to give me $50 or more' level. How close is the seat to its expiration date?
"I've been asking $60 for a 3 year old travel system, which I thought was pretty reasonable."
Maybe, maybe $50, if you were a baby-stuff consignment store, because then you're open all the time and easy to get to and so on; it doesn't work that way for private sales. It is a pain to contact somebody, set up a time, go over there with cash etc etc; it has to be a tremendous steal. And this is not the $$$ thing you purchased three years ago -- it is a different product now -- it is an item that is a couple of years away from being landfill. The value has tanked. It has also presumably been through a full cycle of use with one kid, and that sort of lower-end stuff is not designed to be handed down...
I would try asking $30, and be clear about how easy you are to visit ("two minutes off the highway, can pick up any weeknight after 5, will meet downtown" etc).
I once tried selling on Craigs list and failed. No callers no matter how much I lowered the price. It was December & I put up some very nice Melissa & Doug wooden toys for just $7. There were about 5 toys in the group which we paid $20 + each!! So it was $100 of like new toys for just $7. I ended up putting them on eBay.
I've never tried selling on Craigs List again. But I do browse the site. I have always gotten the feeling that people price things to high.
For me personally I see Craigslist is a step up above yard sales. So I expect just a little higher than yard sale price for the item.
So again this is just me don't take my word for it because I may be wrong. This is a very nice beautiful item you are selling. I love it. I'm sure you paid a lot for it too. But I'd expect around $25 dollars or so. Again that is just me.
Could you share your description of the item? Do you have just one photo of it? Do you have any rules or other things written in the listing?
From what I've seen on Craigslist a bad listing & lack of photos can prevent people from buying. A lot like on ebay.
So 1st you need a very good description on it. Any flaws I'd list them. This is what I do in my eBay store. I describe everything & include photos of the flaws too. This wa people know what they are getting. A lot of photos are important too.
2nd How will people get it? Do they come to you, you come to them or do you meet in a public area like a busy parking lot? Do you have that info in the listing? If not then again that may keep people from buying.
3rd. Do you have it in the right category? Plus since you said you've been trying for weeks maybe the listing is out of view. It may be many pages behind the front page so people can't find it. I haven't sold in Craigslist in a long time so rules may be different but can you cancel your original ad & make a new one so it will show up on the first or second page? Again I may be wrong so look at the rules of the site before don't that.
That's all I can think of right now. Hopefully some others can help you out. Good luck
Advice... take the car seat out of the picture and sell the stroller. When the people come to pick the item up then you can ask if they want the car seat thrown in for free. If not then try to donate it to a womens shelter. Most people will not be interested in a used carseat so will overlook this item as listed.
As for the price of the stroller... I'd pay $30 for it.
$60 an no buyers! I sold my 8 year old Winnie the Pooh system for $40! Advertised the stroller, with a free car seat! The seat of course, was out of date. The buyer took the seat too. They were given a seat that was the same brand, but different cover. They said they were going to switch. (but I heard gramma say she was glad to have a seat, so........) I don't think you are out of line. Look at your posting. Make sure you have eye-catching phrases. Like New! Baby loved this stroller. Comes with a free car seat and base!
I would have started off at 60 myself in my neighbourhood. If I absolutely had to lower it, I wouldn't go below 45 and that would be at least 2 months after posting.
I personally would never buy a carseat off line from a non-retailer so just do what the other person posted and say FREE carseat.
The stroller though was a min of 120 I assume when bought brand new. At least my combo was so I'd expect half the price. Expecially if there are no stains, ect.
I sell high. Sometimes it takes a while but other times it doesn't. Infact, if someone wants something really bad and I have it, they'll pay that extra amount. I also check my CL area and see if anyone else near my location has the same thing up and go off them.
I'm having trouble selling a curio cabinet myself lately... Baby stuff flew outta my house.
