Opinions on kegs at weddings?

A friend of mine is getting married in July. She is trying to go low budget but would still like to have the option of alcohol...The question is, Is it possible to have a keg without a bartender without looking too tacky? All the alcohol would be self serve. She is also considering buying bottles of liquor and allowing guests to pour their own drinks( I think that part sounds tacky) Any opinions would be appreciated.. Thank you!

As long as it's good beer, I couldn't give a flying fig about the delivery system. I'd rather have a decent local keg beer than crappy MGD in bottles. As for the self-serve bar, I don't see a problem with it. Let's be honest, all people want is to drink for free. The vast majority of people just want to show up, have a good time, not have to carry cash on them and then go home.

The most intimate and fun wedding I've ever been to just had a table in the corner and people mixing their own drinks. It was the best.

A keg will really take down the level of formality, but if bride and groom are okay with that, by all means. I would be happy to attend a more casual backyard wedding with a keg. I don't have a problem with self-serve alcohol, not much different from a buffet dinner where you serve yourself.

I have been to wedings that had kegs before. but alowing people to pour their own booze can be a bad idea.

she could find bartenders for really cheap who get paid like 50 bucks for the night and have a tip jar. Ive done that for an associates wedding before.

Your there to have fun. My sister had 6 kegs at her wedding. It was full of succesful people, like the mayor, etc. Anyways, It was freaking fun. Old people were making out and my brother in law was hammered. It was actually the only fun wedding I have been too. People don't give a ****, they just want to drink
