Towing capacity for jeep and it's ratio?

I have heard that what helps towing is the length of the vehicle pulling the weight itself.. I have a wakesetter 247LSV that's weighting 4000lbs dry plus 84g of fuel and drinks I would guess around 5000lbs at the Lenght of 24ft. I currently tow it with a 99 f350 diesel 7.3L dully and have no problem but I want to buy a jeep, older model late 80s to mid 90s and place a small block 350 v8 engine in it, and change then tranny as well to go according to it. Strip all it's weight off other then mudd tires. Would that b able to tow it out of the water on a boat ramp?? Thanks for your time

Your currently pulling that 24' trailer with an F-350 diesel truck with no problem because the truck was built to handle it.  The Jeep isn't exactly the vehicle of choice I would pick for that big and heavy of a trailer, however I believe the new Grand Cherokee's and the Commanders are capable of about 7,000lbs so that's well within reach with your trailer.  However why ruin a jeep by putting a chevy motor in it?  The older model jeep Grand Cherokee's and Jeep Cherokee's I believe were rated right at 5,000lbs towing capacity.  

To answer your question will it be able to tow the boat up the ramp out of the water, YES.  Is it the right vehicle for that big of a trailer/boat, NO.  

I seriously would just look at a 1/2 ton pickup for that job.  The Toyota Tundra is a great vehicle, and so are the new Ford F-150's from what I've heard.
