I will be a freshman at UC Santa Cruz this fall and I am an african american female. I came from a very diverse city in California so I am wondering if UCSC is diverse? I don't only want to be around black people but I would like to know some people since I'm black....lol please give me information thanks! :)

Awesome! I'm Black too and I know people about to start there this fall. I got in but I chose UCB instead. Santa Cruz is a great school but its the least diverse UC, which sucks but that's why its great that you're going there!! They definitely need more diversity, most of the school is White. I'm kind of familiar with the UCs and I've been to a lot of them, and know people at a lot of them. UCSC has Destination Higher Education, which is kind of like their Black student union.

The class president of 2011 was a Black female too! Her name is Tiffany and she's my friend on facebook. She has a huge afro and she's REALLY cool, she's really laid back, but passionate about helping minorities & everyone on campus. She was a senior this year but she's supposed to still be on campus around next yr when you start. You should look for her. Just ask about Tiffany in a student life office, who used to be student body president for 2011. She'll help you meet some people just so you can feel like you aren't alone. I know another girl who starts there this fall too, and she's Black. She's from French Cameroon and has a cool accent. She's pretty quiet & sooooooo nice. You may meet her there is you join DHE! lol I also met a Native American guy who starts this fall too! He's in DHE so you may meet him... they're all really nice. Regardless, the school's population is majority White so you'll most definitely have White friends too, its just cool to know some of the Black people on campus since there aren't many I think. They also have Orale, which is Latino's student union and then A Step Forward, which is for Asians. Sometimes they get together so if you're in DHE then you could meet people from each group & learn about their cultures more.
Just bring a heavy jacket and scarves, etc..lol. It gets FREEZING up there. The people in the city are mostly all White it seemed, but they seemed friendly to me too, but Idk. I met a guy who didn't go to the school but he lived near the boardwalk and he was in a band. It was a White guy and he was really cool and we went out for pizza and their Main street is so romantic looking!... but I also met another White guy who was blonde and actually really cute, he said he was 23 & didn't go to the school but he was really creepy like a rapist! So just stay safe. Its a small little beach town... but I'm sure you know all of this, lol. I'm just adding it in case you didn't. :))
