In science today we had to make an electronic circuit which turned on a light (I know it sounds boring but I found it fun)
I'm just wondering what they are actually called and where could I get them If I can?..

There are many different types of circuits that can be used to control lights,
and many different methods of triggering them. All have different "names".
A suitable transistor and the correct value of resistor
to go with it can be used as a very simple switch.
Look at the kit offerings of Velleman and Ramsey Electronics.
Ramsey also sells some Velleman kits, but not the entire line.
