On the 2nd planet look behind your ship. There is another way to go. You meet a hoverboarder there and do what he askes. He gives you the board.

I think you have to do something for that Skid McMarks alien (whatever his name is) and win a race on another planet to get it. I had issues with it too. Took me forever to finally win the race.
