What to do with this fridge?

My refrigerator broke down in July. It was purchased in 2003. My husband said he was going to fix it but it seems to be more hassle than it's worth. It was not cooling any longer, just blowing air, so we assumed it would be the condenser (I think) and that was the most expensive part. The fridge is now sitting in my living room. Should I...
**call a person who hauls away appliances for free (support their "business" to scrap it for $$$)
**post it on CraigsList for $100 or something
**take it to scrap myself
**try to fix it and then sell it

We bought a new fridge a week after it crapped out. So for 5 months this thing has been taking up my living space and my husband just keeps brushing my suggestions on it aside and says he'll fix it.

It might just be stuck in "self defrost" mode. There is a defrost timer that tells the refrigerator when to defrost. These timers will sometimes get stuck. Sometimes it can be a simple as turning the timer knob back into cool mode. Other times the timer has to be replaced.

The location of the defrost timers vary by manufacturer. If you have the technical paperwork it may show the location. This paperwork can sometimes be found in the front behind the lower grill, sometimes in the back. You may have to remove a panel to get at it.

You may be able to find the location online also. A replacement timer could cost between $10 and $40.

Then again, the compressor might be dead. If it's under 5 years old the warranty may still be good.
