Dog breed help me please?

I really want a dog and would do anything to have one, the only problem is my dad keeps saying they are too much work, i am prepared completely to look after the dog and someone is almost always home so it wouldn't be home alone for too long. I have been looking after my cousins dog (a cockerspaniel/labradoor mix) a lot to try to convince my dad and it is helping a bit. But i wanted to know if anyone recommends a dog breed that isn't too big, doesnt malt a lot and doesn't need alot of excersize??

malt? you mean shed?
i would say a poodle
yorky
pekingese
shih tzu
havanese
bichon frise

those are all pretty small and don't require alot of exercise and they are low shedding. buy from a reputable breeder through the breed club or go to the breed club rescues =]

Try going here ( http://www.akc.org/future_dog_owner/find_breed.cfm ) to answer some of these questions for yourself. Then you can view all of the breeds and find one that suits many of your desires. I'd highly suggest going to a dog rescue, however, and meeting a dog for yourself. Just because the breed standard says it may be low energy, you must remember that each dog has its own personality and may deviate from the standard. The standard is a generalization. Many people that work for shelters are more than happy to work with you to find the type of dog that you are looking for. That, in all honesty, would be the most successful way to find a dog that is the best fit for your home.

Reccomend rescueing an ex racing greyhound. They are big couch potatoes.

Do a lot of research and show your dad all you learned.

If he still says no, wait until you are on your own and financially capable of caring for a dog.

puppies need 24/7 work
dogs need training, exercise, socialization, grooming and vet care
24/7 supervision in fenced yard
start researching how to own and raise dogs
read books
talk to trainers, groomers and vets
research breeds and what they need
toy breeds
all dogs shed, poodles the least
most do

A French Bulldog, in Summer they CANNOT be exercised, due to their heat sensitivity, if you live in a warm climate get a chihuahua. If you live in a cold climate a yorkie. Neutral climate Frenchie.
