How to restore an old iPod touch?

My boyfriend gave me his old iPod touch for christmas and it has all of his music and stuff on it that I don't want. How can I just connect it to my computer and restore it back to the way it was when he originally bought it? Then how do I sync it with my current iTunes library?

i have a macbook pro by the way.
Thank you :)

What you can do is connect it to your computer and your iTunes thing will pop up. When it does, go to the left column that lists all your stuff and different categories and go to the iPod icon that will eventually pop up. It should appear in between the 'Store' section and the 'Genius' section in a category called 'Devices'. Click on that and it will re-direct you to the iPod page. Under the heading 'Version', there will be two options, one about updates or versions, and the second one for restoring. You click the restoring one.
After you restore you iPod, you still stay on the iPod section thing on your iTunes, and on the top there should be 'Summary', 'Apps', 'Music', etc... Just go to those sections and check off which of those you want to sync to your iPod. Once you're done, right at the bottom there should be a whole section showing how much memory is on your iPod. In it there should be 'Revert' and/or 'Apply', click 'Apply'. From there you're good to go:)
Good luck with this:)

First, plug the iPod touch into itunes. Click on the iPod and click restore. Wait for it to finish, and now all the data on the iPod will be wiped. Its as easy as that. Good luck!
