"Forcing Ideas on Others" What does this phrase mean to you?

i have read this phrase many times on Y/A answers. Certainly you can force submission. You can intimidate to require compliance. You can lie and mislead but none of these actions can "force" an idea into someone's head.

So what exactly is "forcing ideas on others"? Surely it is more than just someone stating their beliefs.

That could only really be done to our children through indoctrination. Gentle force. Soft tyranny.

You mean like religion? I haven't figured out how religion can be forced on another person. It's clearly a talking point.

But, if the government is forcing something on the population, disregarding the will of the majority, that's an entirely different story.

The phrase has broad meanings and uses, A nation through its laws, a Corporation through its polices, A parent via curfew....you get the drift?

EDIT: You did not need to thumb me down,I wasn't forcing my ideal upon you.
