What can I do about my toe?

I think I may have broken it around 3 years ago. I opened a brass door too fast and it slammed head on into my big toe. The nail eventually came off, and it was pretty jammed though nothing too crazy looking. I never went to the doc but ive been having aches with it occasionally, I can deal with that but just a few days ago it's been hurting so bad

Feels like there's something caught in the joint of the tarsal. And metatarsal., I can't fully stretch it up and down without serious pain. The area around has always been weird but especially around the outer joint where people usually get bunions it's super super tender, weakest point on my body. The tip of my toe is tingly and the right side of my toe nail has no feeling.
Help?

Omg if I had insurance and could actually afford to go to the doctor why would I be asking this question on the Internet? Oh, so people could tell me to go to the doctor - genius. Really, why hadn't I thought of this before? Hmm...

It sounds like to me that you have re-injured that toe that was injured originally three years ago. Question: Did you continue to walk around on it after you hurt it three years ago, or were you off of it for a while? My guess is that you walked around on it while it was injured... thus it is VERY susceptible to easy re-injury which is what has happened in this case. Your symptoms sound as if you have sprained the joint of that toe. You may have done something recently that you do not even realize you did, and it damaged that ligament. The fact that you can not stretch it out or up and down without serious pain is an indication that the ligament is sprained. You may not like this advice, but this is what you REALLY need to do to heal it...
Staying TOTALLY off of an injured ligament is critical in order for it to heal & heal properly... especially in your big toe! The reason that it is hurting is because the ligament has been injured and needs proper time to heal. This is what you need to do if you REALLY want it healed...
1. Buddy tape your toe to the one next to it. The other toe will act as a splint during the healing process.
2. Start staying TOTALLY off of that foot for a period of between 5 to 7 days (crutches). This will allow the injured ligament the proper time to heal.
3. Each night for 30 minutes before bed, soak your foot in as warm of water as you can stand with a cup of Epsom Salt dissolved in it. The Epsom Salt will draw out the pain, and help to promote healing of the ligament. Do this for the next week or so.

That is it!! Following this regimen will heal that toe and get you back to being PAIN FREE!!!
