First film you watched that made you love movies?

It doesn't have to be a critically acclaimed movie or anything. Just one you can recall that made you love movies.

Raiders of the Lost Ark, for me. :)

BQ: How old were you when you watched it?
BQ2: How many times have you seen it since?
BQ3: Could you name a film that kinda refined your standards, in terms of changing your taste in films or what you felt you should be watching?

Thanks for answering. :)

Marina ((Hugs)) happy Easter!

This is such a cool question because I can remember the exact movie. It was 'From Dusk till Dawn'. I was about 13 and me, my friend and her two brothers rented it out. Before that time I guess I'd only watched comedy films, Disney, Jumanji, a few romantic comedies etc. I'd NEVER seen a film like From Dusk till Dawn. But I was instantly hooked, mesmorised. My friend and her brothers all fell asleep, I was the only one left watching and I LOVED IT. I have even called it the 'film that made me love movies', before even answering this question. Robert Rodriguez remains one of my favourite directors to this day (From Dusk till Dawn is still one of my favourite movies too) and I felt that watching that film opened up many doors. Pulp Fiction, The Big Lebowski, Fargo etc, even stuff like Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels. Sorry for the essay answer, I just really loved the question!

BQ: Approximately 13
BQ2: Oh my goodness, approximately 14-15. Over about 12 years though!
BQ3: Interesting :) watching the Clint Eastwood movie 'Changeling' definitely made me want to watch more biographical dramas, more well-written, slow paced movies with superb storylines. I've always been a gangster/thriller/horror freak but I remember watching Changeling and thinking wow, I really should do this more often! (and I have done!)

edit: P.S, going to watch The Town this weekend! :)

Hm. I believe it was Dumb & Dumber. I remember my brother waking me up one afternoon so I could watch it with him. After seeing it, I fell in love with the movie and Jim Carrey, Lol. Then I started watching the rest of his movies and then I got into other films and actors.

BQ- Twelve.
BQ2- Ten times, maybe?
BQ3- I used to be a huge comedy fan, but after watching a lot of Quentin Tarantino, especially Pulp Fiction my tastes in films changed a lot. Comedy is probably my least favourite genre now.

Probably one of the Disney movies when they used to re-release them every seven years. I remember falling head over heels for "Fantasia." To this day, I simply love that mythology sequence.

BQ: I don't exactly remember how old I was, but it was probably before "ET" came out, which was when I was about six.
BQ2: At least 15. I'd had it on VHS since the early '90s.
BQ3: I remember a lot of fairly good (though mainstream) films coming out when I was around 12 or 13, movies along the lines of "Rain Man," "Dead Poets Society," and "Field of Dreams" that my mom didn't mind taking me to. I think they became the standard by which I began to judge movies from there on out. I was not going to see "Dumb and Dumber" when I could be at "Philadelphia" or "A Few Good Men."

E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial

I was probably about 7 years old at the time.

I have probably seen the movie all the way through about 4 times and I intend on watching it again very soon as this upcoming June will mark the 30th anniversary of the movie.

hey Marina :):)

I've always remembered loving movies- so I'm trying to think about the earliest movie I was really keen on. It's probably Mary Poppins, the 1964 film with Julie Andrews. Even though I haven't watched it for ages, it does have this classic zest to it and I've always loved the cloud stairs which they walk on.

BA: Oh probably 5
BA2: I'd say around six times
BA3: Good question! I think American History X had a massive impact on my taste.
