I never really attend things like this, but I was invited to a formal lunch with my guy-friend's family this Sunday and I really don't know what to wear to such thing. I mean, if it was a dinner then I would just wear a long gown, but for a 1PM lunch? I'm completely lost. Any help will be greatly appreciated :)

grey pencil skirt, wool or other non-synthetic fabric, pink shell and sweater set. Pearls, simple stud earrings, one ring and a wrist watch. Simple low-heeled grey shoes. Simple, elegant, conservative.
Or: more summery, if it's to be outside or on a patio: Cotton floral dress (white background with floral print) white low heels or flats, a brimmed hat, sunglasses, a coordinating sweater, handbag, the ubiquitous pearls or a small gold necklace, stud earrings, not too heavy on the makup, simple elegant hairstyle (clip or pulled back)
and good luck to you. You want to impress his family? Don't stand out. No lie. The spiked dog collar, black army boots and camo gear will scare them away.
If you wear a skirt, you will probably cover the bases just fine. Stay with the natural makeup because of the early hour for the luncheon. Heavy makeup is for evening wear only. If you feel plain, add some nice jewelry to make you look finished. Wearing a light lipstick and earrings will help you look finished no matter what look you go for. If they are the type of relative that is more interested in checking out what you have over visiting with you, then make sure you pick out one hot trend for the season and use it. Hopefully they are not like that, and you have a nice time seeing them.
Some nice cream or off white pants (dress pants would be fine) wear a button up shirt of your choice, and as a coat wear a nice matching (color wise) blazer.
I really like minuscule skirts and the true way i fix it being brief is leggings and coloured tights. Not those people with holes however the ones that just about appear to be leggings but are obviously tights as a result of material.
