What should I wear to a formal lunch?

You can't go wrong with a basic black cocktail dress and heels. nothing too revealing mind you, it is lunch so it shouldn't be more then 1-2 inches above the knee and not too much cleavage. Also a coat or cardigan would be appropriate.

Otherwise your best bet is to ask your friend what his sisters or mother would normally wear.

maybe dress black pants with a NICE white blouse, NOT low cut

to a not low cut, not to tight medium long black dress

really, you would like ot make a good impression
