Not friends on Facebook, but still seeing some updates?

A person unfriended me a while ago on Facebook and I thought that w that. But then, one day I sw "person x commented on person ys photo" person x being the person who unfriended me. I thought maybe I ws blocked but when I search for them they are my top search result and I can see some of their profile. Then today a picture person x took comes across my newsfeed suing "person x commented on their own photo." I hasn't commented or been tagged in that photo. But when I go to their profile it still says "add as friend" and I don't get status updates from them. Any explanation?

it has to do with you still being subscribed to them or not

Because you have subscribed to his status updates. If you want to unsubscribe then Go to his profile and click on unsubscribe.
