Is a wheel alignment the only way to diagnose whether there is bent strut?

My car was hit near the wheel, and I am getting conflicting advice on whether or not I need a wheel alignment.
Some say that a wheel alignment is necessary to determine if the strut by by wheel was bent, and that may not show up until the tire begins to wear unevenly.

The car seems to drive straight down the road, not pulling left or right.

Setting the alignment with precision equipment is the only way to be certain. It may not be necessary since the car drives well, but until a tire wears prematurely or not no one will know. For now, place a large carpenters level against each tire and look for a difference.

If your car is driving straight down the road and not pulling to the right or left then you don't have any problems. An alignment will determine if the strut is bent or not,,,,,,

if you hit a bump and the car bounces to much on after the bump then you should replace it or if you see it has damage to it other than that it should be fine
