front left wheel rim obviously bent?

Toyota corolla 96, car scraped high speed on a guard rail so looks like crap but still drives ok. that particular wheel is bent and if the car is driven on a slick surface (water, gravel) the car will lurch left and right which scares the sh*t out of me! Also sharp turns, you can hear squealing from that wheel like the wheel is dragging and moving around.

Anyway, is it the bent front left wheel that's causing this? Or is the source of this deeper and not because of the wheel?

When you bent the wheel, you also bent the suspension. Your car is not safe to drive, park it until you can get it fixed. Take it to competent shop for an alignment and new wheel. With some luck that is all you need. If you need more they will be able to tell you what.

  • it is time to replace the rim. that should deal with most of the problem. it would be a good start at least. the belt rim can cause the wheel to lurch back and forth making steering a bit funny. if the rim is bent bad enough, it may make contact with the brake caliper and that can make a noise also.

well you'll have to check your undercarriage you also could have messed up your wheel alignment also does it do it worse when you take a right turn than a left as you will have more weight on this.

Now check your spare wheel is it a full wheel or is it one of the "donut" wheels if it's a full wheel put it on and take it for a test drive also see if your steering wheel wiggles when you drive in a straight line.
