What does the James Holmes Auora, CO shootings mean for loners?
I am a loner, no friends at all, never received a text... etc. But I remember when the Virginia Tech shootings happened, there was an uprise in news stories saying "loners are dangerous," "watch out for the quiet kids" and things of that nature. I understand the same thing happened after Columbine too. I remember that I was avoided by people and at one point an anonymous student reported me to the office because they thought I was up to something, the office then criticized me for keeping to myself and told me it's a "Security risk" and that I need to be more talkative and "normal." So I'm asking you, will you be more cautious around loners? And do you think that loners will be stereotyped as murderers and attacked because of the news?

People just fear the unknown and the only way they can know about people is by communicating with them.
If you don't communicate with many people, then it is human nature for people to fear you, or atleast be cautious around you. They just don't know who you are. You act the same way around strangers when you are alone I assume. You don't want to follow them into their house, most people aren't crazy murderers or kidnappers, but you just never know, so you would avoid going into a strangers house.
It's not loners that act the way James Holmes did, it's people who have a mental illness or disorder, such as depression or antisocial personality disorder, which is probably caused or heightened by loneliness.
There is nothing wrong with being a loner, if you are happy with it, then there is no need to change. People will misjudge you no matter what you act like.
Hey, I was born a geekette, love solitude and nature and enjoy my time alone when I can think. I have friends that I really should pay more attention to but we're all creatives and we know and respect each other enough to give each other the space we need. Being a "loner" isn't the same as "having no friends". It's just not needing to constantly be connected to a gazillion other people. If you have no friends, maybe you're shy, have Asperger's or are in some other way not properly socialized and can't relate to others. Most of us loners can relate. We just prefer our own quiet thoughts to the jabbering and blabbering of a multitude of others. We enjoy mental challenges and problem solving. We draw and paint and write and meditate and a thousand other things that can only be done alone. Most scientists (and mathematicians) are "loners" because a lot of science can only be accomplished alone in the field or alone in the lab but this doesn't mean that scientists and mathematicians have no friends. It just means that we have to spend a lot of time alone.
Too many successful people are "pizza under the door guys" for loners to be ostracized, to be shunned by society.
The media just clings to the same stereotypes to try to explain the unexplainable, if you look into Columbine you will find the ring leader was a popular kid - not a loner at all like the media tried to claim, he dated several girls and had friends.
Same thing with this James Holmes, he was on sports teams, he went out drinking on Fridays with friends... That doesn't sound like a loner to me. Now after the fact they are going to try to find people to say what they want to paint the picture they want, but it's not that easy to explain.
well, i will definitely not be more cautious around loners. I am sort of a loner too. But not to the extent of isolating myself.
Loners will be more stereotyped now I think yeah because of the news. Sad society we live in. I wouldnt say change your personalty right away, for you and other loners I would say find someone with whom you are comfortable with, to talk to. That will help a lot.
You do understand what white/Caucasian is do no longer you? the two get your video show/television adjusted and/or your shade imaginative and prescient/eyes examined. Holmes is as white as white would properly be. Any whiter and he'd be sparkling.
