Do you think Wikipedia will close down soon?

It isn't what it used to be.  I wonder if it is the next candidate for closure.

Updated 5 days ago:

It seems over-edited by some elite and I feel it has been stifled.  Also I doubt it's accuracy these days

DGH - I sent it money - but how long can that go on?

Wikipedia controls the narrative online especially related to our perception of historical events. History is written by the victors and the victors own and control wikipedia.

It shouldn’t be. It is really a useful, effective, educational website.

Naw, but in ten year's time I can see the editorship being formalised and that wouldn't be such a bad thing.  Most of it is alright and very good for a collaborative effort but some entries as the loci of little wars which benefit no one.

YA has been more of a chat site which could set up for the attack on DC. or a similar event. Twit &FB were more involved in that than they are willing to admit.

Wiki is less instant reaction, so it is more due to lack of adverts willing to be sponsoring it.

. Also without a way to check up on the up to date claims, its info becomes less reliable as some of those claims are made by extremists who do not care about accuracy ...they just want a platform to speak. If Wiki info becomes unreliable then I am hitting the printed books.

Yes, my Dad told me that Wikipedia was closing, just after the first Lock Down, in the UK.  They don't make any money, apparently anyone can update the information and I doubt anyone is checking whether the information is correct.

  • i hope not, why is it not how it used to be? care to explain?
