How do I explain to people that I'm not a huge anime fan, even though I love Kingdom Hearts?

I absolutely LOVE the Kingdom Hearts game series and am a HUGE fan, mostly because I'm a big Disney fan and love the whole plot and idea of the game, along with the characters, and I've been all over the series ever since I saw an ad for the first one on an old Disney video I have. I found a few friends at school who are interested in the series as well, but most of them are also huge fans of anime and manga, and they'll recommend all these shows and books to me, even though I'm not a big fan of any else in the genre. I used to watch Sailor Moon (Not anymore, however), and I also like the movies from Studio Ghibli that Disney brings over to the US once in a while, but other than those and Kingdom Hearts, I haven't been exposed to too much in the genre, and am not really interested in the other anime and manga that are out there.

 But the thing is that since I am a big fan of Kingdom Hearts, I read the whole collection of manga for Kingdom Hearts 1 and Chain of Memories. And so automatically, I convinced people that I was in to that sort of thing. And my t-shirt for Kingdom Hearts doesn't help much either. 

So, a lot of people, like several old friends and people that I'd like to become my friends, won't talk to me because they think I'm an anime nerd and that that's all I'll talk about. True, I can get deep into a conversation about Kingdom Hearts, but I'm into a lot of other things as well. And then, on the opposite hand, people who see the Kingdom Hearts shirt automatically think I'm an anime fan and start asking me if I've seen this anime or that one, when I don't watch it all that much. 

So, how can I explain that I'm not a big fan, even though I love Kingdom Hearts? I don't want to lose friends or gain friends that I have nothing in common with.

Just tell them, "Hey, I don't watch that stuff, but I love Kingdom Hearts." If they don't like you because of Kingdom Hearts specifically, then drop 'em (I know a lot of people who think it's weird just because it has Disney in it). If they were just wondering if you liked anime in general, then they should leave you alone.

Kingdom Hearts is an amazing series, and I can see how a Disney fan like yourself would like it (Many do). There are some fans hoping for anime that drops the Disney characters, but then they'd be dropping pretty much all of them, because Disney owns the whole franchise and therefore own the main characters. And Kingdom Hearts is nothing without the Disney magic.

Anyway, just tell them that you're not big on the other stuff in the genre, and maybe try and find out if they like anything else that you're a fan of. And if they don't like Kingdom Hearts, just try to leave it out of a conversation with that person.

Tell them you are a video game fan and not an anime fan.  They should get it then.  But i think some of your friends are right, if you Loved KH because of the Plot, then there are anime out there that you will like.

simple, just tell them that you're more of a gamer than an anime fan or just say that you really only like Kingdom Hearts
