I became a born again Christian 51 years ago at the age of 19. People thought that I'd 'get over it' or 'grow out of it'. That did not happen. I respect the rights of every human being to believe whatever they choose to believe but I also believe that very many are wrong in their beliefs and understand that many will say exactly the same about me.
I was raised in a religious home. The more I learned of religion, the less I could accept it. My conclusion after 40+ years is that it's a man made system to control the masses, to enrich the leaders, and do furnish them with young people for their sexual satisfaction.
There is NO verifiable evidence of any god.
The religious influence on the US society, has been overall, a negative one, with prohibitions and bans, retarding our scientific and social development.
I believe in good. Religious practices to me are just a form of wishful thinking as in: if I'm good I will live forever in a wonderful place. Unfortunately the thing that is wrong with that is that there are a bunch of people who are obviously going to heaven and I don't even like them here on earth. I'll risk it and live life my own way and hope others will do the same and try not to interfere with each other too much.
I was raised as a christian but I got over it. I took all the training and was confirmed into the church and that was the last time I entered one for worship. I never believed a bit of it and still don't think any of it is true. Born agains really get my goat and they can't wait to tell you all about their orgasmic rapture.
I'm a Teapot Atheist. Which means I find the idea of a god or gods highly unlikely.
"I contend that we are both atheists. I just believe in one fewer god than you do. When you understand why you dismiss all the other possible gods, you will understand why I dismiss yours." -- Stephen Roberts
