I want to go to church every Sunday. But since they are short handed they wont let me take off a few hours for church. I am not asking for the whole day off just a few hours off for church. It says in the hand book will accommodate around religion. Isn't it a law where they are supposed to accommodate for religion?

No they do not have a Saturday night mass. It would not matter if they did. They want me to work Saturday nights also. We have 2 masses one at 9:30 and then again at 5 pm. On Sunday

I am very flexible. I gave up a lot of stuff I enjoyed to help them out. They promised me benefits and wont give them to me and I still do them a lot of favors. I am also looking for a new job. This job is a low paying job. If they are not going to give me the benefits they promised it is not worth keeping and giving up things I enjoy.

No, they just can't fire you because of your religion, but they can fire you because your schedule isn't flexible. Did your job description say must be willing to work nights, weekends and holidays? If you are not under contract, I bet it did and there isn't much you can do but find a job that's more tolerant.
What if every fire fighter, hospital worker or law enforcement person had to be given Christmas, easter, etc off?
Where I work muslims can "pray" at what hours they have to (I'm not one) but they have to clock out and it can't exceed 15 mins.
I don't think there is a law against this, but the employer should be flexible enough to work this out with you. I worked at a Denny's and Sunday morning at Denny's is super busy. The Jewish manager always worked Sunday mornings so the others who wanted to go to church could go. In turn, the Christian or non-religious managers would cover Jewish holidays for him. It's not a big deal for them to find someone who will either switch with you or cover for you. I doubt every person in this workplace is a Church on Sunday Christian. Ask for more compromise.
In the private sector there are no requirements that anyone be offered any type of religious accommodation. I'm surprised with so much emphasis on not letting faith interact with government that there are so many public accommodations.
"Accomodations for religion" do not necessarily mean time off to go to church. It's more like they would allow you to wear a muslim headscarf, or a crucifix as a piece of jewelry--or perhaps take religious HOLIDAYS (such as Good Friday or Yom Kippur) off instead. A company does not have to make accomodations like this--there is no legal requirement to accomodate someone's religious habits--to SOME extent. They cannot discriminate against you for your religious BELIEFS--ie.: force you to eat pork if your religion forbids it--but they don't have to allow you time off for church.
You can try to compromise with the scheduler and ask for an occasional time to attend church, but they don't have to allow it. Especially if they are shorthanded.
I honestly don't know but does your church have a Saturday night service? Or do they have sermons online that you can watch later? Many churches do. I realize that it is not the same thing... but in the meantime while you figure this situation out perhaps that would be an option for you.
