Most Overrated classic rock (1970-2000) bands/artists?
Fortunately, I can't get hate mail here so I'll start with my choices: 1) Lynryd Skynrd. Free Bird was a classic. Sweet Home Alabama was OK. The End, IMO. 2) REO Speedwagon. "Riding the Storm Out" was good.....No, that's it. 3) Genesis/Phil Collins. One of the most over-played and tiring acts. In competition with Rod Stewart, but Stewart had a couple in his early days. 4) KISS. They did a movie about how disco sucked and these guys were great? All attitude, no talent, a forerunner of video. 5) Metallica. I had a friend that played them all the time. Can't remember a song that I liked. Was it all in the name?

I think I was wrong about getting hate mail here. Just my opinion guys. If you disagree, give me an example. I DO know these bands though, even if my opinion of them is different.

I don't think KISS were ever taken seriously? And I never saw the appeal in Metallica.
Genesis had an interesting start but Phil Collin's solo career and their reunion was such annoying drivel.
I like Led Zeppelin and U2 but I think were both were overrated. People treated them like God and like they could do no wrong. Ugh. (Though not everyone gave Led Zeppelin a free pass they did have some critics.)
I really only like early heavy metal up to Led Zeppelin, I think anything after that was fake pretend poser crap.
Rod Stewart in 1980s was crap, but he was good when he was with The Faces. There's some footage of them on youtube live, it's brilliant.
I don't think any are overrated. Just cause a lot of people like band over another does not make them overrated. Only time I see a band overrated is when they are put into a different style of music as the Beatles being put into rock which they were nor and never were. They were a pop band over all and that's what made them the best in that field. I think a lot of bangs get overrated by young people today when they listen to classic rock, cause the most the hear form are bands like, the beatles, rolling stones, led zeppelin, the who, black sabbath, they don't hear enough of the other bands from that era. It's not a put down by me on the young fans of music today. When I grew up in the 60's we are our favorites but we did not overrate them all that much over our bands of our time. Even music and bands from today in thirty years which now are popular will be called by a new generation of kid as overrated music as will. So sit back and take it easy and let people say what they want. I only appricate people who love music just for music.
My list: 1- KISS (easily the most overrated MUSIC artists of all time. They just "suck", I listened to 13 songs from them. Only ONE decent song, ONE. The other 12 just suck.) 2- Queen, one has to agree how much they're overrated, they have good music, but people just overrate them. 3- The Beatles their music is fun and enjoyable, but they're again overrated. 4- Metallica they're amazing, I like three songs by them, but they're really really overrated. 5- Black Sabbath, yea we know they created metal and stuff, but still their music as a whole is overrated.
1. ACDC . Loud and boring. I don't need to say more.
2. Nirvana. Sure, they brought about a whole new era of music. That would be worthy of worldwide adulation. If not for the fact that this new style of music (alt rock/grunge) was lackluster bland at best.
3. Any Glam Metal band. Yawnworthy, completely overshadowed by real Heavy Metal and commercialised to DEATH.
4. U2. I really don't understand their legendary reputation and endearing fame and sucess. I really don't.
5. The Beatles are just a tad bit overrated in spite of their innovation.
