Twitter has followers not fans.
All you have to do is be funny, hashtag alot, say **** that people will like, or follow people based on their tags and **** they say.
Alot of douche bags spend money, how else can a dude that only retweets have 100k followers.

If you have something useful or interesting to say people will following you. No point in having followers just for show if you are silent or just spout inane drivel -- there are plenty of them already.
