proscan hard to turn on?

i have a proscan 32lb30qd that has a hard time turning on. doesn't matter with remote or on the tv i push the on button and the blue light turns on the goes off and the red light comes back on. it will do this for some time and then finally turn on. it has been getting worse. any ideas what parts i may need? i can change the parts but have no idea what ones and i don't need to just change boards to do it. thanks

The catch with repairing sets is that you really need to be able to "sniff out" the bad parts. There is an extremely high chance that it's just failed capacitors on the main power supply board... but there is a catch! Contrary to popular belief, bad caps aren't so easy to locate. Those that have shorted and overheated will be bulging due to a safety feature aspect of their design.... but most bad caps don't bulge.

Here is where pulling caps and testing them with a combination of a capacitance tester (many multimeters do this well) and their resistance known as ESR (really need a special tester here). Often caps with a bad ESR happen to read very high in capacitance - well over spec, and that's a "cheat" that at least makes the part questionable. Another cheat is to use component cooler and cool down the caps, very gradually and one at a time. Take your time, as if you cool too many and the set starts to work (and it likely will), you won't know which cap just temporarily reformed back closer to spec!

Overall pay key attention to the higher voltage caps on the power supply board. Those are the likely problem spots. Try to stick with Panasonic, Nichicon and United Chemi-Con when possible.
