Why so much violence in todays society? I want to hear your opinion as to where it all stems from?

Violent video games? Sexual abuse in childhood? Bad parenting? Satan? Too much television we let our children watch? Internet? Child neglect? Why are parents killing their chidren?

Religion trying to force their rules on everyone else.

It stems from us, all of us. We have developed into a society that values how much stuff we have over who we are as people. There is no space on this earth that we can inhabit where we are not bombarded with all sorts of marketing strategies to get us to buy stuff we don't need. And yet, we are unhappy. On all levels--from road rage to international relations--we are willing to disregard others to get what we want. This is our 21st century environment.

We are all taught the Golden Rule: Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. My belief is that until as individuals we begin to live by this wisdom, nothing will change.

Here's a film that talks about transforming into a new paradigm of relating to each other. Much food for thought.

IT stems STRRRAIGHT from hip hop/ rap. Alot of these rappers support and promote drugs, alcohol and violence. Not only that but people like Marilyn Manson, or whatever his name is are making people go even crazier.

Really think about it. For most of human history, the world was an exceptionally violent place. Wars, famine, diseases, people killing each other with little concern about consequences, etc. Look at the world today. There are very violent places, Somalia, parts of the middle east, parts of Chicago, etc, but when looked at as a whole, the world is a safer place than it's ever been.

A lot of people confuse 1950's sitcoms with reality. Father Knows Bet, Leave it to Beaver, etc, were television shows. They didn't show racism (or even black people), all problems were solved by the end of the show, etc. Many people pine for a past that never was.

The big difference today is we have 24/7 news. 30 years ago, if there was blonde girl kidnapped in Santa Monica, no one on the east coast knew about it. These days, it's going to be the lead story on all networks and cable. People love tragedy; they can't get enough of it, and the news feeds that hunger. And if you look at crime stats, violent crime has steadily decreased over the past 20 or 30 years. It may not seem like it, but if you dig out the data, you will find this is true.
