Nail avulsion - keep wet or dry?

I had my middle finger nail ripped clean off. The dr. said the nail would grow back.

In the meantime, I am confused by the care instructions. It says to "keep dry", and bandage with neosporin. Well when I dress with neosporin it stays wet and nasty looking (when bandage is removed). Seems like if I leave it open to air it would scab and dry up.

Anyone else with experience with this?

Perhaps 'keep dry' is just referring to water.

In other words, "Do not wash or rinse", that fingernail area.

Scabs are actually not the greatest for healing.

Keeping the area 'moist' --but,NOT with water-- is preferable.

A bandage that allows air through it is also preferable. Scabs don't do that.

Some people use organic Coconut oil, instead of things like Neosporin, including me.
