What would/will go in your Gratitude Journal tonight?

There's been a lot of publicity in the last decade or so over keeping a Gratitude Journal. Some people find that taking time to feel grateful contributes to their overall happiness. What makes you happy?

in evaluating this, choose one or all three of these categories or another category of your own.
1. General state of your life or your family, etc.
2. Current events in your life, like today, this week, or your short term plans.
3. "These are a few of my favorite things" & what you like about them. Could be plants, animals, where you live, or whatever.

Could also be your favorite possessions, but of course, materialism isn't the point here.

From my past experience asking questions, I can only say, if you don't like the question, please answer something else. Don't tell me about it. It's just not that helpful.

The purpose of the q. isn't to be chatty but so I can see what sort of thing I might use for my own journal.

I have been wanting to start keeping one for some time now. I am one of those people who can't see the good because all of the bad clouding things out. Its in sitting down and trying to do this that I see that there is plenty for me to be happy about in my life. Using your template, from category one I am thankful for my life, health and strength. The current state of my life is unimaginable for me. I would have never thought things would have gone this wrong but I am thankful that I am alive and capable of knowing that things have gone wrong. My health stays strong no matter how self destructive I get. I've done many things to take my good health away and none have resulted in a significant loss. Physically my stength is waning but I still have the function of my limbs and control of my body. Mentally, I still have hope that things can get better. From category two, I am thankful to know that I am going to work on Friday. I get angry and sore at myself because I can't be a doctor or a teacher or something else worthwhile doing but I'm learning how to appreciate the fact that I have a job at all. There are lots of people who need it and would give a lot to have it and don't and I look down upon it because its not what I would have wanted if given the choice. I am thankful that I can understand that and see that I truly am blessed. Today I was thankful to be around my brother's family. I don't have any friends and certainly no children so it was a cherished experience to get to just be around people who wanted to be around me and to have children look up to me and not see all of the negatives that I know are there in me. I am thankful to have my eyes open to the good that might still be in me, its what they were seeing in allowing me to be around the most precious thing you can have in life. From category three, I like geting on the computer and seeing questions like this, watching other people talk about or do what they're passionate about, children's smiles, birds of paradise, buffalos, the mountains, wide open spaces, overcoming obstacles... I like them all for a similar reason, they give me a rare glimpse at what its like to feel good about life. So even in doing this small exercise, I feel as though I have a lot to be thankful for.
