Requesting A Visa, Any Way To Avoid Providing Flight Itinerary And Hotel Reservation?

Does anyone know how to avoid having to pay for itinerary and flights that wont be used? I dont want to pay and then my visa might get rejected. also i want to backpack around a few countries and dont want to have to reserve and be bogged down to one place unless i want to, for any length of time.

Any way to get around this? Thanks.

For countries that require that information, there is no way around supplying it. If you don't, it will just delay the process since they'll stop processing your visa request until you supply it.
