You don't have to have any Scottish ancestry at all. To join the Scottish Rite you need only be a Master Mason in good standing, and belong to a jurisdiction that allows membership in appendant bodies. That's it. You don't have to be Scottish or know anything about Scotland.

The truth is there is really nothing Scottish about the Scottish Rite. It comes mostly from France.
