Help with leg workout please!!?

Everytime I try to workout my legs they don't seem to hurt much the next day or anything... And I try to work them hard! But then when I go for a run the other day (a pretty intense run for my ability) my legs were sore for days!!

What am I doing wrong with my leg workout? And what exercises should I be doing?

It is good to consult a physical therapist. But in the short guess you may not be patiently stretching your muscles before the run or giving them enough rest in between workout.
