Do i have to ask for Professor s permission to visit his room?

Let s say the Professor s in the college room. Can i just go knock on his door, and see if he s in there? Or do i have to send an email in advance?

I sent an email for letter of rec. He said visit my room tomorrow after 3 PM anytime. I came at 5:50 PM, door was locked. What do i do? Do i send another email saying what about tomorrow?

I don t want to feel irritated...

usually you just show up. They post their office hours in the syllabus.

Just set a time.  5:50 is generally after work hours - he's not living in his office.   When he says after 3pm, probably means up to about 4:30-5:00.   Next time just go at 3pm.

In the USA professors have office hours. A student can visit their office any time during posted office hours.
