In an academic context, would you consider this "cheating?"?

In science class, we were doing an experiment, in groups. I remember that someone from outside my group asked the teacher about something, but either I don't remember the answer, or no answer was given. Then, I realized that the question that was asked also applied to me, so I asked the question, and got an answer.

I heard the question, but not the answer, and then realized that the question applied to me, so I asked it, and got the answer.

There is no need to put cheating in "". Either it is or it isn't, no qualifier is needed.

Your details are a bit unclear. If you are asking "I heard the answer before, from an outside source. Is it okay to use that answer in class". The answer is yes, it is okay. You are not cheating in any way.
