Wouldn't gravitational waves have to be created every time a photon is generated or absorbed?

Mass changes during these events, right? So wouldn't it logically follow that a gravitational wave would be created?

Well, photons are supposed to be massless. But the mass of whatever the photon gets absorbed into, or generated from, changes.

what is the mass of a photon?

gravity is not just the result of matter but of energy too.
