Can I retake the accuplacer?

I am currently in college to become a teacher. I am about to go into my Junior year and my advisor emailed me and told me I had to take an Acculpacer test and get a certain score on each content area to be able to apply to the actual teaching program. I took it today and aced all sections except for the Math. I needed a 73 and I got a 51.  I am stunned.  I am a 4.0 student and I have taken all my math courses except for 1.  Will this prevent me from continuing on with the program.  Can I take the test again?  I am so upset about it.  My advisor  is so hard to get ahold of but I am going to see her tomorrow. Just want to see what anyone thinks will happen.

It is highly likely that you will be given an opportunity to re-take the math part of the exam.  Like you, I have taken the Accuplacer, and, in fact, as part of a study of its accuracy, I took it along with a large group of college professors.  Most of those who had not majored in math did not do well on the math part.  (I was among them.)  I suspect that the results where you are will be fairly similar, with only students who are already good in math or planning to become math teachers doing well in the math portion of the test.  Institutions get negative about "one shot deals," recognizing that students may not do well on standardized tests the first time.  There is a high likelihood that you will get another chance.
